Data Protection Co-ordinator - New Business

About the role

The National Archives, as a government body and a leading cultural institution, is a data led and information rich organisation, that works across a diverse group of people including the public, our staff, the wider archive and government sectors, and others, all of whom may need to use the personal data of others in their work.

We are looking for someone with business support experience and the ability to deliver intelligence gathering for our Data Protection Officer and the Procurement team, providing them with an early understanding of the personal data to be processed and the envisaged data flows for all emerging business activities. You will elicit sufficient information about new projects/proposals to enable the Data Protection Officer to deliver well-informed and timely compliance advice.

We believe that archives are for everyone and everyone has a right to have their personal data dealt with fairly and lawfully. You will be working with our friendly and enthusiastic teams; getting to the heart of what personal data processing they need to deliver projects successfully.

Our Privacy notice gives a more detailed overview of personal data processing at The National Archives.

This is a full time post. However, requests for part-time working, flexible working and job share will be considered, taking into account at all times the operational needs of the Department.

A combination of onsite and home working is available and applicants should be able to regularly travel to our Kew site.

About you

We are an equal opportunities employer, welcoming applications from all sections of the community and from people of diverse ages, experience and backgrounds, including people with disabilities. We are keen to explore the widest possible pool of talent for all our roles.

You will have:
  • A track record of building strong trust-based relationships across the business and with stakeholders at all levels, demonstrating diplomacy, tact and understanding of others' priorities to achieve common goals.
  • Understanding of privacy by design and default and how this translates into processes and procedures
  • Experience of working across an organisation that has a varied remit; dealing with stakeholders and customers from different sectors

Although the purpose of the role is to assist the Data Protection Officer, we are not looking for someone with a detailed knowledge of the application of DP laws. This is an entirely new role and you will have the opportunity and autonomy to shape it. If you would like the chance to be immersed in the wide ranging business of a leading national archive, if you enjoy speaking to people, and getting to the heart of an issue, then we would very much like to hear from you.

Benefits
