The CMA is facing rapidly evolving challenges in its aim to makes markets work well for businesses and consumers and support faster economic growth. In the past few years, the role of the Digital and Forensics and Intelligence service has substantially grown and now sits as the engine room of the CMA, playing a vital role in many of our cases. To meet growing demand, we are seeking a proven leader to shape and develop our digital forensic and intelligence service capabilities. The role offers substantial opportunities to be at the cutting edge of new technologies whilst making a significant impact and difference across high profile cases of national and international importance.

The Digital Forensics and Intelligence Service uses their technical expertise to facilitate the forensic collection, investigation, analysis and preparation of digital material and supporting Internet Intelligence & Investigations (III). As Director, you will shape the strategic development and delivery of a portfolio of digital forensics and III services to case and project teams across the CMA. These include:

  • Onsite forensic collection of evidence for cartel and antitrust investigations
  • Processing and preparation of evidence for cases including relevance and LPP filtering
  • Mobile device forensic acquisition, analysis, and reporting
  • Development of the III capability including our physical and virtual Internet Labs
  • Training on III for all frontline areas to promote best practice and compliance with regulations, delivered with our Specialist Intelligence Unit
  • Advanced Internet Intelligence & Investigations Services including content capture from websites to support enforcement cases

The Digital and Forensics and Intelligence service is part of a wider world leading Data, Technology and Analysis (DaTA) unit which includes eDiscovery specialists, data scientists and data engineers. As a senior member of staff, you will represent the DFIS team and DaTA unit externally, building relationships with our counterparts across law enforcement and other regulators to ensure the CMA is close to and up to date on the latest thinking.  

Key to this role will be your proven track record in the delivery of client-focused digital forensic and intelligence services in a law enforcement or regulatory environment. This will include managing multidisciplinary teams and outsourced investigatory partners, along with developing systems to meet competing demands, using both technical expertise and highly effective communication and influencing skills.
