HMRC's multi-award winning Cyber Security Command Centre (CSCC) manage and reduce cyber risk by offering world class capabilities to protect, detect and respond to cyber threats including opportunistic cyber threats or targeted intrusions, by undertaking extensive real time monitoring to benefit HMRC, our customers and Other Government Departments (OGD).

The Engineering team support these aims through a 'hands-on' role in managing a mix of end-user devices and over 200 on premise and cloud assets.

Job description

  • Maintaining and developing the key Security and Incident Event Management (SIEM) tool that HMRC uses to detect and respond to Cyber-attacks.
  • Working with suppliers on problem resolution and to develop existing capabilities.
  • Providing engineering input to projects as part of HMRC's ongoing programme of enhancements, including setting of requirements and user acceptance testing.
  • Supporting end-users across multiple sites, including industrial placements and apprentices.

Responsibilities

Essential Criteria:

Whilst the work is in a security environment, it is primarily an engineering role and we are looking for a candidate who has significant recent experience and/or understanding of at least one of the three core technologies - Linux, Windows Server or Cloud (ideally AWS or Azure), and can also demonstrate:

 

  • Designing and building scalable, reliable and secure infrastructure.
  • Knowledge and application of scripting and/or automation technologies.
  • The ability to deal with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, as well as working independently, including taking ownership of issues and problems.


Desirable Qualifications Details:

 

  • BSc or MSc in a computing specialism, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), with Cloud, SANS, SIEM, or network-based certification especially welcome.

Team members that are moving offices as a result of the Locations Programme will be entitled to a Moves Adjustment Payment for three years where they incur additional costs. This is calculated based on the difference between the costs of travelling to and from the new and old office, over a weekly period. You will get more detail on this as part of targeted locations move communications.
