The Role – Information Security Director

We are accelerating our security journey, aiming to deliver the most trusted sports technology and data on the market, elevating security as a competitive differentiator. We are looking to appoint an Information Security Director to drive and lead information risk and security management strategy across the Genius Sports Group. The successful candidate will be an engaging, pragmatic leader who sets a high standard and strives for continuous improvement. The candidate should have a track record of overseeing security teams within highly technology driven environments. They will feel comfortable holding others accountable to security responsibilities and be confident in challenging when needed. The ability to influence cross–functionally and at a senior level and galvanise a variety of audiences behind the importance of Information Security will be critical in this role.

Responsibilities

  1. Strategy: in conjunction with relevant business stakeholders, develop and implement strategies to ensure the protection of our information assets, in alignment with our business priorities and direction.
  2. Compliance and policy: develop and implement policies and practices where needed to ensure we meet all local regulatory requirements globally.
  3. Industry and landscape knowledge: Keep abreast of developing security threats and help the Senior Leadership team understand potential security risks, including those that might arise from acquisitions, moving into new markets or geopolitical developments.
  4. Third party requirements: overall responsible for ensuring completion of due diligence from customers, insurers, auditors and other third parties. Collaborate with Commercial, Procurement and Legal teams and Customers as requested.
  5. Security monitoring and investigation: oversee the effective response to material security incidents, minimising impact and ensuring appropriate communication with key internal and external stakeholders such as customers, partners, authorities.
  6. Influencing stakeholders: leverage effective communication and strong relationships to ensure stakeholder alignment and buy–in for the security strategy, objectives and initiatives. Including stakeholders across technical and non–technical teams, up to the Board level.
  7. Drive the agenda: educate stakeholders across the business, helping them to understand the importance of security and their role in safeguarding the business. Ultimately, embedding an overall positive culture of security awareness and shared responsibility across the Group.

  4. Able to make difficult decisions and trade–offs, taking a risk–based approach and balancing different stakeholder interests.
  5. Able to adapt and respond to fast–moving and quick–changing objectives as opportunities arise.
  6. Passionate about the growth of your team, peers and security champions across the business. A track record of empowering others to develop and raise their performance.
  7. Able to hold others accountable to high standards, bringing rigour to the team and challenging the status quo.
  8. Able to operate in a fast–paced organisation and work with a complex, dynamic technology estate.
  9. Empathetic to competing priorities, able to disagree and commit, and remain resilient.

What you'll bring:

  1. Experience managing multiple security teams (e.g. AppSec, SecOps, GRC) and building strong partnerships with relevant teams (e.g. Product, Engineering, Privacy, Risk).
  2. Extensive experience ensuring compliance with applicable global laws, regulations and standards such as Data Protection Laws, SOX, ISO 27001, SOC 2 and NIST.
  3. Deep understanding of risk management practices and experience driving risk culture.
  4. Relevant certifications in cybersecurity, GRC, or related areas is desirable (e.g., CISM, CISSP).
  5. Experience in a cloud heavy, tech–led organisation working with Agile methodologies is desirable.
  6. An interest in sports, data and technology is desirable.
  7. Proven experience in a medium–large organisation, preferably with global teams.
