The Central team at CZI consists of our Finance, People & DEI, Real Estate, Events, Workplace, Facilities, Security, Brand & Communications, Business Systems, Central Operations, Strategic Initiatives, and Ventures teams. These teams provide strategic support and operational excellence across the board at CZI.
The OpportunityOur Central Tech team provides technology and security support for CZI and our grantees. We believe that Engineering, IT and Security are most effective when in sync and learning from each other on a daily basis. Across our three pillars of Infrastructure, Security, and Grantee & Partner Support, we enable our teams to achieve their goals faster and more securely. We leverage technology to automate manual processes, constantly innovate to optimize operations, provide first–class support, and build solutions to enable the scale and execution of our business partners' strategies and initiatives.
The Infrastructure organization works on building shared platforms to be used across all of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. Members of the Infrastructure Engineering team have an impact on all of CZI's initiatives by enabling the technology solutions used by other engineering teams at CZI to scale. A person in this role will build these technology solutions and help cultivate a culture of shared best practices and knowledge around core engineering.
What You'll Do- Analyze and improve the efficiency, stability, and security of CZI engineering.
- Work with the existing infrastructure security team and other security stakeholders within the organization to ensure we're doing the most impactful work we can for CZI.
- Design and build tools and libraries, constituting a shared stack for use across 5+ engineering teams.
- Evangelize and educate teams across CZI on best practices.
- Drive impact across the company, working closely with the Product Security (ProdSec) team at the intersection of infrastructure, the application layer, and the ever–changing risk management landscape.
- BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of relevant coding experience.
- Proficiency with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Microsoft Azure.
- Strong security domain expertise.
- Proven experience designing reliable systems.
- Kubernetes, AWS Lambda, and any other FaaS or containerized workloads experience.
- Shown ability with languages such as Java, Python, Go, Rust.
- Experience with containers, cloud container schedulers, and continuous deployment systems.
- AI/MLOps is a strong plus.
The Redwood City, CA base pay range for this role is $214,000 – $321,000. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job–related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process. Pay ranges outside Redwood City are adjusted based on cost of labor in each respective geographical market.
