About the Role:
Cyber Security NSW is looking for a Senior Cyber Security Analyst to join the Cyber Response Team in Sydney. We are looking for candidates with strong cyber incident response and technical analysis skills who have experience communicating and providing assistance, reporting and strategic advice to a variety of stakeholders.
The Incident Response Team leads and coordinates the whole-of-government response to incidents working closely with the internal and external stakeholders during incident response, triaging, monitoring and investigation cyber security incidents, providing remediation advice and coordinating across affected groups; and provides technical expertise and analysis to deliver advice, intelligence and reporting on cyber security threats and incidents.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide expert support to NSW Government clusters, agencies and councils incident response, provide technical expertise and advice, and investigate potential cyber security incidents
- Monitor, identify, assess and alert agencies and executives to cyber security issues, threats and vulnerabilities including breaches and potential intrusion incidents to ensure the security of NSW Government information systems.
- Work collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders to monitor, detect, report and share cyber vulnerabilities, incidents, threats and trends to support informed decision making and minimise potential cyber security risk.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders to identify, assess and alert agencies and executives to cyber security issues, threats and vulnerabilities
- Analyse and assess cyber threats to government services, assets and information to determine attribution, motivation and capability
- Mentor and guide staff in the timely delivery of actionable intelligence and reporting on emerging cyber threats, trends and issues affecting NSW Government to facilitate efficient team/unit operations and security in line with agency standards, policies and procedure
- Develop and lead projects with an aim to ensure continuous improvement of NSW Government's cyber security posture.
- Identify stakeholder requirements, prioritise workload and manage team portfolios to meet agreed outcomes and timeframes to ensure prompt resolution of issues.
- Keep up-to date with the latest trends and issues in IT and cyber security risks and solutions to provider recommendations on innovations and best practices to improve cyber security posture across NSW Government.
About Cyber Security NSW Branch:
The Cyber Security NSW is a whole-of-government function located within Digital.NSW in the Department of Customer Service. We are responsible for ensuring a cyber safe NSW. The protection of our systems and digital information is vital because of the many essential services NSW Government provides including health, emergency services, and transport. Furthermore, the exciting digital transformation being undertaken across NSW Government requires similarly enhanced cyber security capabilities.
At the centre of this exciting and growing cyber capability, Cyber Security NSW is working across NSW Government to:
- Create a whole-of-government integrated approach to managing cyber risk and responding to cyber security threats
- Increase cyber skills and awareness
- Understand the risks from cyber threats to our digital information and systems
- Set cyber security standards
- Ensure we are prepared if a damaging cyber incident occurs
About You (Essential Requirements of the Role):
To be successful in the role you will:
- Be reliable and hardworking, with the ability to coordinate multiple priorities at once
- Ability to work flexibly to respond to incidents, including participation in an on-call roster
- Minimum five years' experience in a technical cyber security role
- Broad knowledge and understanding in multiple fields such as:
o DFIR log analysis
o Windows and UNIX/Linux operating systems
o Network administration
o Public cloud technologies including AWS and Azure
o Security technologies
o IT operations and incident management
- Possess excellent organisational and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proactively manage own workload and tasks
- Ability to manage a small team
- Ability to engage with both technical and non-technical staff and stakeholders
- High level of proficiency in Office 365, Atlassian (Jira) and other common project management software
- An understanding of IT processes and interest in Cyber Security
- An Australian Citizen including the ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline National Security Clearance and undergo a police check
